Choreography

As a choreographer, Spencer explores the relationship between structure and sensation. Drawing from queer theory, architecture, and their postmodern lineage, Spencer’s choreography blends compositional rigor with emotional depth—creating performances that question systems while holding space for tenderness, reflection, and transformation.

Weidie’s movement language is rooted in improvisational research and refined through formal phrasework, emphasizing spatial architecture, shifting weight, and internal perception. Their work is informed by years of study and performance with artists including Trisha Brown, Brian Brooks, and MADBOOTS Dance, and shaped by a deep interest in visual composition drawn from photography and film.

As a nonbinary artist, Weidie approaches choreography as a method of resistance and reimagining. They design their own sound, light, and costuming, and collaborate closely with dramaturgs and performers to build conceptually rich, emotionally resonant worlds. Their work shifts across formats—from proscenium to site-specific to immersive—and invites audiences into experiences that disrupt expectation and offer new ways of seeing the self and the body in motion.
